Kowhai and Pohutukawa's Cross country 2014

On Thursday 20th Of November 2014, Kowhai team and Pohutukawa team had Cross Country. The parents came to watch our race but it was a HOT HOT HOT DAY!!! Lots of the  kids tried really hard, some came 1st 2nd and 3rd! They never gave up! :o
We all had to line up in our age lines and the 8 year old boys and girls had to wear Ribbons because they were running with the seven year olds and the teacher knew our ages. After everyone had a turn Whaea Barb announced that there's a race around the field with the teachers vs parents, congrats to the parents who won.

We also want to give a special thanks to the parents who came to support the kids. And these are some photos of our winners.

Sharing is caring

Kia Ora Whanau!!!

This term we have been focusing on fractions where our students have been learning more about numerators and denominators. With our Stars group we were using multiplication to solve our fraction problems.

What were you learning to do?

Angele: "I am learning how to... use multiplication to find fraction answers.''

Nancy: "I am learning how to... use multiplication to find a set of fraction.''

Making Maths Fun!!!!

Making Maths Fun!!!

This term Room 8 has been recycling old egg cartons for a new maths activity!!! Students shake the container and whichever two numbers the pom poms land on are the groups they make using materials!

"REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE" - Jack Johnson :D

Jorja and Noema put their multiplication skills to the test making 'groups' using the egg cartons.

Also students in Room 8 have been using the smart board to test their maths skill in a variety of ICT maths activities.

With these new activities students in Room 8 are able to learn their multiplication in different ways to keep kids motivated and keep the learning fresh and exciting!

Term 2 Inquiry

What makes a good citizen???

This term Room 8 is looking how we can be good citizens and what are the characteristics of a good citizen.

Our inquiry led us to learning more and more about what our rights and responsibilities are as citizens of SPS and a common theme we discovered was that a good citizen helps others.

As we look into how WE can be better citizens Room 8 is viewing work done by others where we are learning about the work they do to help others.

Celebrities we focused on were wrestling star John Cena, Dancing superstar Parris Goebel and Sonny Bill William's work with raising meningococcal awarness.
